Journal
$5 is hardly anything for a commission, heres why
Edit: Okay, wow--If I knew this journal would get the attention that it's getting I would have tried to make it sound a bit more professional and a bit less ranty im almost a little embarrassed
I'm also really glad that so many of you could share your input and experiences. It's really important that we understand this--especially on a site with so many young, impressionable artists. It's easy for us to think that our time is only worth the end product. When i first joined this site (i was 13), the first type of commission that I took was a full picture for only 5 points. Granted--it didn't look the best. i was only 13 after all, but at the time I didn't even know the value of points. When i was about 14-15 I started looking to get more serious about my art. I wanted to make actual money off of it, so I started considering prices and i never charged anything more than $20. I was still really torn because a few people were still telling me that I was underchar

Literature
.: Gays are revolting :.
Gay people are disgusting
And I certainly don’t think
They are ok
 “They aren’t fine for society”
“They aren’t perfectly normal”
I do not believe
They don’t choose to be gay
“Belong in this world!”
No; Gays
Should burn in Hell
They,
If anything
We should hate them
I’ll never agree with those who think
“Tolerate”
We
Want to separate them
It’s absolutely horrid when the populations
Say they love each other and
Think that it’s nice when they kiss
Because I
Just ridicule and mock them,
Really, REALLY hate them
I’ve seen sometimes on TV how they
Let a man marry another man
Those people are just plain sad
They’ll never be the same
It’s funny how they think
That one saying is completely true
“Love
is
Love”
They aren’t able to comprehend
Because
They just don’t know what love is
Say mean things
But don’t you dare
Be nice
It’s perfectly fine

I've made a few of these and this one's my latest. I really like these guys... The materials are all hubcaps found on the side of the road

Magpies
These birds are roughly six feet high on their stand. They're made with a beak and armature of treated steel and the rest of the bodies are pieces of old car bumpers that were donated

Dragon and Egg
This is the second picture of a speculative piece that is for sale on my website. The Egg fridge was donated but the rest of it is made from found materials. The body and head is made out of old car hubcaps from the side of the road - the wings are made from bits of car bumper and bits of old shopping trolley.

I've been working professionally as a sculptor since 2001, but pretty much all my adult life in one way or another I have been making stuff. I started with the hubcaps around 1997 but have embraced other plastics and scrap metal along the way. I'm self taught with the mig welder when it comes to the scrap metal sculptures so the work is not as tidy as it could be but I'm learning all the time...

My inspiration comes from the natural world where I find such a staggering quantity and wealth of exciting ideas that I am already regretting the relatively little amount of time I have left to create.

My biggest challenges come from commissions for creations that would never pass my head - The Queen of England - A saxaphone - A three meter high bee - all of which have tested and matured me (a little bit)

I've got a website www.hubcapcreatures.com - a Facebook page under the name Hubcap Creatures and you can also find me on Twitter and Pinterest if you wish.

Commissions

River Art
These are three of ten sculptures commissioned in 2006 by Anglian Water to promote their 'Rivercare' campaign to encourage people to participate in their waterways clean up community project.
Dragon
This mobile three meter high dragon was commissioned by Dragonheartbeats as a carnival float. It's built on a van chassis and carries a drummer with full drum kit, lights, sounds and fire.
Braintree Birds
These birds were commissioned by Essex County Council to decorate the approach road to a new recycling centre in Braintree. The birds are all made from site-sourced materials including reebar, car panels, foundation shoring and scaffold bar.
Rob's Sculptures
These works were all commissioned by a private client
Ecover Bee 2013
A three month commission for Ecover promoting their new bottle design made from plastic reclaimed from the ocean. The sculpture project culminated in appearances at Glastonbury Festival, The Hampton Court Flower Show and The Eden Project
